What Outdoor Locations do you use?
An outdoor location is your choice. If no location in mind, I use the Governors Mansion in downtown Farmington but it is only open to the public on
Sunday and Monday. Downtown Northville has historic parks and venue’s. Lola Valley Park offers a woodsy background with the Rouge River in the distant. Nankin Mills in Livonia offers a white barn and is located in Hines Park with beautiful outdoor scenery. I have traveled to Downtown Detroit for a session including our famous marquee’s. Choices are unlimited.
What if the weather is bad on the day of my session?
In the event of severe weather, rain or snow on the day of your session, I will cancel the session and reschedule your session. If the weather
is warmer or colder than you had hoped, that is NOT a valid reason to cancel a shoot. Overcast skies are definitely NOT a reason to cancel. In fact, cloudy/overcast days can provide the best light for photography…much better than a sunny day due to softer light and less harsh shadows.
Advice on what to wear?
You should have fun with color and accessories. Choose outfits that make you want to smile. Don't forget you have as many outfit changes as you want, within two hours. Also, keep in mind that these suggestions are for adults and older teens. Children can pretty much wear what you want them too.
But here are a few recommendations to get your images to look their best:
I recommend avoiding solid black or white and "matching" too much. It's much better to complement each other than it is to match.
*Stay away from sweaters or tightly woven material. I say this because some sweater material can sometimes show through. Even if you cannot see it with the naked eye, it will show up when I use the flash during your session. Undergarments that show through do not make for very good images.
*No shorts. Shorts only make you appear shorter in your final images.
*No prints or patterns on clothes. Try to stick to solid colors. Too many busy patterns in a photograph can cause problems with the
final image. Fashion styles change overnight and sticking to classic solid colors and patterns will ensure your images don't end up looking outdated in a short period of time.
*Don't wear dresses that have a waistline, either at the waist or under the breast line, or that flare or balloon out at the bottom. Spaghetti straps make arms appear bigger. If your dress has a waistline or flares out at the bottom it will just make you appear bigger, in your final image.
*Ladies, please remember to bring any make up or hair care products for touch ups, just in case.
Remember, these are only recommendations to get your images to look their best. You should ultimately wear what makes you comfortable and that is complimentary to your particular body type.
Can I bring props to my photo session?
Yes, absolutely. Props can bring your personality through in your images. For instances, a hat or special necklace might compliment a dressy
outfit or if you play sports, you might want equipment in your image. Especially Senior pictures, something that screams your personality!
I am pregnant and would like maternity photos taken, When is the best time for a photo session?
You should schedule your session for 4 to 6 weeks before your estimated due date. You want your tummy to be as big as possible for you maternity portraits.
Will my house work for a portrait session?
Lighting is my biggest concern in choosing a location. If your home has at least one room with good natural lighting I will make it work. If your home doesn’t work for the photo session, no problem! We can discuss the possibility of an outdoor shoot. Keep in mind that the background isn't the focus, you are.
